| An eye affected by allergic conjunctivitis |
An
allergic conjunctivitis can last from a few hours to two or three days,
depending on the severity of the injury , an allergic conjunctivitis caused by
simple substance like dust, fur , pollen grains, flies that got into the eye
will go away as soon as the allergens are out of the eye. Whereas infections caused
by chemicals, eg. Expired eye drops or cosmetics, dangerous insects stings may
last longer than this.
Allergic
conjunctivitis can last much more longer depending on the time of the years,
for example in a hay season it is likely not to go away. One
thing with allergic conjunctivitis is
you have to stop the cause of infection or remove the allergen, if
otherwise it will last indefinitely.
Apart
from allergic conjunctivitis that are caused by the presence of allergens in
the eye, (an allergen is any substance that irritate the eye, e.g dust, fur ,
pollen grains etc.)
There are other form of conjunctivitis: the
bacterial and the viral, this bacterial and viral type of conjunctivitis can
last longer for a week to about a month, these two form of conjunctivitis can
last longer because they have incubation of the bacteria or the virus and when
the symptoms show up,
The allergic conjunctivitis is not contagious
in anywhere, but the bacterial and the viral type are contagious. When the virus are at their incubation period
before they show up sign or symptoms, they are not contagious in anyway but by
the time they are “busted” the can be contagious.
Viral
conjunctivitis are severe at the beginning but they last only for few days to
weeks whereas bacterial conjunctivitis can last longer than from few weeks to a
month.
An
allergic conjunctivitis can last as long as you left it untreated, the best
solution is to consult your eye doctor, you need to know the cause of the
allergic reaction and remove it.
