Wearing of an eye patch after cataract is only
recommended by many cataract surgeon as this is aimed to shield the eye, most
of the time patient are told to keep the use the eye patch for the first 4
hours after the surgery, glasses should
be use during the day.
Most of the the time you will be required to use the
eye shield ( a small piece of tape placed on the eyelids and the eye patch tape
on them) for at least four hours after the cataract surgery, after that you can
remove the shield and re-apply it at night when sleeping, meanwhile during the
day you can either use your glass or the eye shield.

shield are aimed to ensure safe recovery after the surgery, it is design to
protect you from injuring the operate
eye, please use the eye shield given to you by your doctor before sleeping , do
not scratch or rub the eye, use the eye
drop given to you by your doctor, this are necessary to prevent infections and inflammation
on the eye.
You may experience some grittiness, haloes in your vision
and blurry vision immediately after the cataract, do not panic , it common to
most patient, what is required of you is
to keep to your doctors instructions, be hygienic and careful, stay away from strenuous
activities .
In short you are required not to rub or scratch your
eye, swim or allow soap or water get into your eye, do not use a hot tub, driving
should also be avoided, exercising should be avoided, carrying heavy load items
should also be avoided,
you may
observe that your eye glasses does not fit you again, this is because the power
of your eye has improve therefore keep that away.
