The question here, can you get dry eye after
cataract surgery, the answer is Yes,
if in the
surgery , the corneal nerves are affected, it can create inflammations and may
cause the eye to be very sensitive to allergen and irritant that may got into
the eye , pharmaceutical, eye drops etc. may contain chemical that are
allergenic to the eye, in a normal eye this chemical may not get to the eye
tissue, but with cataract surgery where the
nerves are exposed to these chemicals,
the eye become very sensitive to these chemicals and allergic reaction
will happen, this allergic is not only necessary in the form of dry eye but
also inflammations, irritation, watery eye, gritty feeling in the eye, burning
sensations etc.
Dry eye can also be cause by a cataract
surgery if in any way or the other the surgery cause the tear duct( tissues and
nerves) disruption, It will affect the
normal production of tears , and what do you think will happen , dry eye
symptoms will be evident, a dry eye is a
condition whereby the eye is unable to produce enough tears to lubricate them,
eye, it is mostly cause by the presence of placards in the tear duct , other causes of dry eye
are decreased in tear production, medically known as keratoconjunctivitis, mostly as a result of aging, some medical
condition: like diabetes, arthritis, thyroid disorder ,lupus, scleroderma etc.
medications like antihistamine, decongestants, hormone replacement therapy,
blood pressure and more. Tear gland damage as we have stated it above , eyelids
problems, imbalance in in tear composition, the tear has three major component
in the required proportion, oil, water and mucus, any change to this will result in dry eyes,
over-evaporation of tears mostly caused by wind, smoke or dry air, blinking
less often etc.
