A high
blood pressure can cause blood vessels in the eye to burst, the blood vessels
in the eyes, or simply the veins in the eye are very tiny and delicate, at higher
blood pressure, the blood vessels are
strain due to the increase in the volume and rate of blood flow, the larger
blood vessels can withstand this sudden change in pressure whereas the vessels
in the eye that are tiny and very delicate cannot and therefore they burst and bleeding will be
seen throughout the eye.
A high
blood pressure damages the vessels supplying blood to the retina and this is
called retinopathy . This will not only cause bleeding in the eye, but a
blurred vision and a complete loss of vision.
The blood
vessels in the eye are very tiny and have thin walls unlike other blood vessels
in the other part of the body with thick wall, this makes them at greater risk
of bursting when strain. This blood vessels will therefore swells and eventually
break causing a small hemorrhage in the eye.
the eye wall is white and is cause this small
bloods to be visible, and this is the what is called redness in the eye.
Some blood
pressure medication can contribute to the eye reddening , some drug make the
blood vessels to expand this will undoubtedly lower the blood pressure but the
vessels in the eye get irritated and becomes red.
Should you
panic when you see blood in your eyes? Your eye redness can only be attributed
to high blood pressure if your blood pressure is over 140/80 mmhg for a longer
time. A part from HBP, there are
numerous causes of red eye: lack of adequate sleep, smoking, foreign bodies
like dust particles, insects, crying ,
over-exposure to sunlight, over-exposure to computer screen without blinking
away, people with dry eyes etc.
